Teachers and students will find The University of California Museum in Paleontology website to be an excellent resource. Teachers can find lesson plans to present to their students, and students will enjoy working on the activities that are offered on this website.
Teachers
When teachers go to the home page, they will see three sections: Online Exhibits, Science at UCMP, and About UCMP. If they click on Online Exhibits, they will find various links such as History of Life Through Time, K-12 Resources, The Paleontology Portal, Mystery Fossil, and others.
If teachers click on K-12 Resources, they will come to another page that has a link for teachers and one for students.
When teachers click on the link for teachers, they will see another page that has other links such as Learning from the Fossil Record, The ISTAT Digital Curriculum Guide, Our Dynamic Earth, Explorations Through Time, The Paleontology Portal, California’s Landscape, and others.
These links contain resources for lessons from Kindergarten through high school.
For example, if teachers go to Our Dynamic Earth, they will find a course outline that they can take. The course discusses the earth as well as land, water, air, and living things.
The ISTAT Digital Curriculum Guide contains various lessons for middle school to high school students. Some of the titles are Adventures at Dry Creek, The Best of the Solar System, Life Has a History, and others. When teachers run their cursor over the title, they will see a summary of the lesson.
If teachers click on a title, they will see an arrow pointing to their section and another arrow pointing to the students section. When teachers click on their arrow, they will see instructions on how to get started in teaching the specific topic, lesson plan, how long it will take to teach the lesson, and other important information.
Students will also enjoy their section in paleontology.
Students
If students click on their section, they will see a page where they can click on as a group or individually. They will type in their name and click on submit. Then, they will be ready to start their lesson on Adventures at Dry Creek or whatever title they planned to study.
If students would like to do paleontology as a career, they can go to the link titled Paleontology Portal. This webpage has excellent information on Paleontology. For example, there is a definition of paleontology, educational courses to take in high school, and in college.
Teachers, students, or anyone interested in paleontology would enjoy this website because of the various resources this website has to offer. Teachers could come up with several lesson plans by studying this website, and their students would also enjoy working on the computer and doing the lessons that this website has available for them.
I would recommend this website to anyone who would like to know more about paleontology or would like to pursue a career in this field.
