The Newark Public Schools, which is the largest public school district, provides services for all of the public schools in Newark. The public schools are also among the lowest performing in the state, and the district still struggles with students' standardized test scores being low as well as students dropping out of high school, which causes a low graduation rate. There are also private schools in Newark such as Link Community School, which is a non-denominational and co-educational day school for seventh and eighth grade students. Saint Benedict's Preparatory School, which is another private school, is for boys in the Roman Catholic religion. In addition to the public and private schools, there are colleges and universities such as the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Seton Hall University School of Law, and others. The New Jersey Institute of Technology, which is a public research university, has several degree programs in undergraduate and graduate fields. Seton Hall University School of Law, which is part of Seton Hall University, a Catholic university, is located in the downtown area of Newark. The school had the highest rate of students who passed the bar in 2006.
