  • This lesson will teach students about sound. They will hear different sounds, and then they will say which sounds they heard. This will develop auditory skills. You will use this lesson as a science project when you teach students about sounds.

  • Students will learn:

    * To identify sounds

    * To develop auditory discrimination skills

  • Materials Needed

  • You will need:

    * Different items that make sounds

    * The worksheet I have included in this lesson

    * Pencils and Erasers

  • Procedure

  • First, you will gather different items that make sounds. For example, you can use an alarm clock, radio, bell, string instrument, brass instrument,

    Animal Noises: cow, pig, horse, duck, rooster, or other animal sounds.

    There are tapes that have different sounds to develop auditory skills.


    Then, you will talk to the students about the sounds of different items.

    After that, you will have each student turn around and identify each sound he/she hears.

    You can also use the following worksheet for students to use as you do the sounds. They need to work so they cannot see you.



    Worksheet on Sounds

    Alarm Clock, Radio, Bell, String Instrument, Brass Instrument,
    Animal Noises: Cow, Pig, Horse, Duck, Rooster, or other animal sounds.

  • Grading

  • You can grade the students on how well they listened to the sounds and how well they could discriminate the different sounds.
