Description

This lesson is about reading the problem and subtracting numbers in certain place values.

Goals

Students will learn:
About place values
Subtract numbers in specific place values

Materials Needed

The worksheet I have included in this lesson
Pencils and erasers

Procedure

First, you will copy the worksheet so that each student will have a copy.

Then, you will write the following examples on the board so that students will understand what to do.

Examples: Subtract 20 thousand from 38,299 = 18,299

Subtract 100 from the hundreds place value = 38,598 = 38,498

After that, you will pass out the worksheets so they can work independently. Worksheet - Place Values - Subtracting

Directions - Follow the directions for part.

Part One - Subtract twenty thousand from the following numbers.

Each one is worth five points for a total of 100 points.

100 to 90 = A

89 to 80 = B

79 to 70 = C
