  • Description

  • This lesson is about writing numbers to thousands in expanded form.
  •
  • Goals

  • Students will learn:

    * To write numbers in expanded form to thousands

  •
  • Materials Needed

  • * The worksheet I have included in this lesson

    * Pencils and erasers
  •
  • Procedure

  • First, you will copy the worksheet so that each student will have a copy.

Then, you will write draw a chart on the board to show the students what they will do on their worksheet.

For the number 1,367, you can draw a chart to show:

    Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones

Then, you will place the numbers in the right place value.

    Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones
    1 3 6 7
The value of the 1 is 1,000. There are 1 thousands, which equals 1,000
The value of the 3 is 300. There are 3 hundreds, which equals 300.
The value of the 6 is 60. There are 6 tens, which equals 60.
The value of the 7 is 7. There are 7 ones, which equals 7.

    Expanded form of 1,367 = 1,000 + 300 + 60 + 7

After that, you will pass out the worksheet so they can work on them independently.
