Description

• Students will learn about Acronyms and will fill out the worksheet that I have included in this lesson plan. This lesson is on characters in The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Students will find information on specific characters listed in the worksheet and find words that begin with the letters of the characters.

  * To find information about the characters that begin the letters in the Acronym.

Materials Needed

• * The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
  * Worksheet
  * Pencils and Erasers or Pens and Whiteouts

Procedure

• First, you will copy the worksheet. After that, you will explain about Acronyms and give them examples such as using their first names and having them pick words that begin with each letter of their first names. For example: J A M E S = Jolly, Anxious, Mellow, Eager, Successful. However, the words they choose for each letter of the characters should relate to the specific character.

  Directions: Write words that relate to the letters of the characters. You will need to look up the characters in The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien so you can locate some information about each character or his habitat. If you cannot locate something about the character or his habitat, you can leave it blank. To help you get started, I have given you the first letter and word.

• You can grade the students on their accuracy of information they wrote for each character. You can also grade them on spelling.
