Art Lesson Plans
- Bookmarks
- Children will make bookmarks for their parents. The bookmarks will have a picture of each child. You will laminate them when the children finish them.
- Decorating Christmas Trees
- Students will decorate a Christmas tree using crayons, small cotton balls, and other ornaments that they can glue to their trees.
- Picture Word Book
- For this lesson, students will have pictures of animals, toys, or other topics. Then, they will make a Picture Word Book.
- Scrapbooks
- Students will gather their pictures they have made and put them together in a scrapbook for their parents.
- Turkey Color Page
- Student will have a white pieces of paper with a turkey on it. Have the students color the turkey according to the directions you give them. You also need a sample page for them to see.
PreSchool
- Color Book
- Students will find different pictures that show different colors. For example, they will look for pictures that show red and glue them to the page that has the word red at the top. Each page will have a different color. Then, they will make a book.
- Dyed Flower Garden
- In this lesson, you will teach students to create a dyed flower garden, discuss how plants grow and read Eric Carle's "Tiny Seed."
- Falling Leaves
- In this lesson, students will paint over leaves to create a painting of falling leaves.
- Farm Pictures
- Students will paint a farm and glue pictures of farm animals on their pictures. Students will need to let the paint dry first before they can glue on the pictures of farm animals.
- Finger Painted Christmas Trees
- Students will have green finger paint to make Christmas trees. They will also use red finger paint and make decorations on the tree and presents below the tree.
- Forest Animals
- Students will draw a forest on their white paper and glue pictures of animals that roam in the forest.
- Hand Painted Turkeys
- Students will have brown finger paint so they can place their right hand in the paint and place it on finger paint paper. Then, they will place their left hand in the paint and on the paper. They will make turkeys, green grass, and a blue sky.
- I Am Special
- In this lesson, students will be taught that they each have qualities that make them special in their own way.
- Learning About Leaves
- In this lesson, you will take the students on a trip outside to collect different kinds of leaves. Then, you will return to the classroom and do their art project.
- Making Christmas Cards
- In this lesson, students will learn to make Christmas cards for their parents. This lesson plan can also be for elementary students Grades 1 to 5.
- Making Santas
- Students will make Santas for this lesson. This lesson can be done in December for Christmas.
- Making Turkeys
- This lesson plan can be used in November for Thanksgiving. Students will make turkeys.
- Making Valentine's Day Cards
- Students will make Valentine's Day cards.
- Ocean Pictures
- Students will make pictures of the ocean and then glue pictures of different types of animals found in the ocean.
- Play Dough Farm Animals
- Students will make farm animals out of play dough.
- Turkey Feathers - Counting
- Students will have turkey patterns and feathers. They will place the correct number of feathers on the turkey that is written below each turkey. Then, they can color the turkeys. This lesson can be done during math or art.
Kindergarten
- Being Thankful
- This lesson plan can be used the week of Thanksgiving. Students will draw a large circle and then smaller circles and lines pointing to the large circle. Inside the large circle, they will write the word Thankful. Inside the smaller circles, they will write different things they are thankful for.
- Christmas Felt Scene
- In this lesson, students will make a Christmas Scene out of felt. They will cut out patterns and glue the patterns on white construction paper.
- Christmas Scene and Paragraph
- In this lesson, students will draw a Christmas Scene and then write a paragraph about the scene.
- Christmas Trees
- Students will have a Christmas Tree pattern on white construction paper, and then they will draw Christmas balls on the trees and write mother, father, brother's name, sister's name, and pets. This is for their immediate family. They can also draw on other decorations and presents below the tree.
- Making a Word Book
- This lesson plan can combine art and writing. The students will create a cover for their word book. The word book will consist of new words that they come across in their reading or what they hear from people.
- Making Pencil Containers
- Students will make pencil containers
- Safety Safari Poster
- Teacher will create a safety hazard list and discuss personal safety with students.
- Thanksgiving Mural
- This lesson plan should be for fourth and fifth grade students. Students will draw a mural of the history of Thanksgiving. They will start with the first Thanksgiving and work up to the present day. Use the main facts of various years.
Elementary School
- Illustrating and Writing a Short Story
- This lesson is about drawing pictures of scenes and then writing about the scene.
- Making a Journal
- In this lesson, students will make a journal. Then, they can start writing in their journal on any topic they choose.
- Writing a Television Advertisement
- In this lesson, you will have students write and illustrate an advertisement for their favorite television show.
Middle School
- Photo Album
- In this lesson, students will take pictures of different scenes, their family, family activities, or any other pictures that would appeal to readers. After that, they will write something about each picture such as a caption that would describe the picture. This lesson will take more than one class period.
