School Description

Whispering Oak Montessori Academy encourages independent, self-directed learning for life in a child-centered environment.  We promote an international community valuing peace, respect for others and pride in individual differences.  Our goal is to foster a love of learning and educate children to be caring, socially responsible citizens of their community and world.

The foundation of our program is the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, who believed in providing children with an environment rich in opportunities to grow spiritually, mentally and socially.   Dr. Montessori discovered that children have a great natural desire to learn and can do so joyfully if they are presented with key concepts and ideals during their sensitive learning periods.   Within the carefully prepared Montessori environment, the child is highly motivated to learn and explore, and becomes, to a large extent, his or her own teacher.

Complementing our Montessori curriculum is the innovative Reggio Emilia approach.  While the Montessori Method fosters a child’s independence and inner learning strengths, the Reggio Emilia approach takes these strengths and returns them to the larger group.  This is accomplished within a carefully prepared artistic and creative environment called the “Atelier.”   Daily group meetings within the Atelier offer children a forum to raise questions and offer ideas for exploring language, science, math and art.  The children are then free to explore their questions in the form of projects.  As with Montessori, the teacher provides guidance and offers suggestions, always following the curiosity and creative spirit of the children.

Our educational and supplemental care programs are available for children from age 18 months through 6 years in three different programs: Toddler, Preschool and Kindergarten.

Montessori-trained teachers and staff are dedicated to helping children discover their unique potential – academically, socially, and interpersonally.

  • My granddaughter has thrived at Whispering Oaks. She knows all her numbers, letters, and sounds at 3 1/2 years old. I am a retired public school teacher, and see that the curriculm covered more that prepares children for kindergarten. We had many 5 year olds in public school that were less ready than these preschoolers. It is also a beautiful facility in which anyone would feel save leaving their child. We're lucky to have it!

  • Both my daughter's have attended Whispering Oaks and they loved the facility. The facility is in a great location. All the teachers are very well educated individuals and pay detailed attention to the children. The facility and yard are in excellent, safe, secure condition! My daughter's loved playing on all of the great play equipment they have for the kids and brought home the cutest artistic creations. The facility exposes to kids to all kinds of different activities my daughter's were never bored. My daughter’s were exposed to science here and they still go in our backyard and make their own science experiments. I am so thankful I found Whispering Oaks when I did and feel very fortunate that my daughter's had the experience there. AWESOME FACILITY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
