  • Nothing but good things to say about Youngstown Chrsitian School. They are very informative on how students are progressing every step of the way. They do what ever it takes to get the children where they need to be. They are not like public school with hidden agendas to try to get children psycologically tested to receive funds for the school per child. Way yo go YCS. They stand out diffrently from the rest.

  • My daughter attended YCS and during the time that she did she really had to apply herself. She is now in college and is on the Dean's list and recently made straight A's. They are more advanced then public schooling and they push the education firmly but are very supportive in helpimng each child individually according to the needs [they helped my daughter]. They are well rounded school as far a blended races. The fact that they are a private christian school speaks for themselves. They truly present chrisitianity.

  • Okay, been couple years after graduating. This school makes it a tough adjustment to college than I would say most. It's not that that the teachers are not smart, it's the ability for some to convey information to students,....to teach. Also, it does install values into students. However, some because of this will rebel and hard later in life. It also doesn't prepare you for the ," Real World".
I learned far more in college in one year than 4-5 at YCS. The athletics have emerged in some sports, but the divisions the school athletics are thrown in, don't expect scholarships. Secondly, the teachers are under paid, I knew this as a student. As a result, they are over-stressed. As well, you get what you pay for, and that's why the teaching can be second rate. Please don't take this as the teachers being naive or lack of smarts. It's just their ability to convey their knowledge( which is teaching ) is lacking.

Also, they lost a worker in Mr.B as he passed. The school will easily take a hit for his tragic passing. Mrs. Marks is an excellent communicator to her students when I was there( if your nice haha ), and she is what I would call a student's teacher. Mrs. Malaska, well the the students might complain, some will be valid ans some will be lack of effort( for you parents ). She is a former college prof. I believe and it shows a little. You can tell she dummies down her program for high school, but I think hasn't found that nice in between. Overall, she is not bad, the old pride and nucleus of the Teaching clan....haha.

I rate a 3 of 5, basically for some good teachers, but lack of overall teaching progression toward a college education. The sports I would rate 3 out of 5 as well...this is coming from a former athlete. Their strength and conditioning can be revamped. Also, the great unspoken asset to the school, Mr. Fin. He helped the school's athletic programs, and that will prob. go unspoken. He invested quality time and personal money toward some sports, especially the baseball program.

If your kid is playing sports, get a trainer. Focus on compound movements like bench press, squats, dead lifts, rows, and chin ups. For more explosiveness and hip movement, step lunges. I am telling you this b//c someone they need more strength and conditioning. Realize the school didn't introduce football until 2004. That's my review, 3 of 5. Also, as said, the principals can ease up a little and allow the students to have their own identity within reason, while teaching their shared beliefs. However, don't neglect the real world.

  • Many of the teachers seem inexperienced and unable to teach. Not sure where they find them. My kids will need a lot of tutoring to catch up to other kids in their grade, despite getting all A's and B's. Principles taught are harsh, close-minded and judgemental.

  • I highly recomend this school. It is wonderful and has a great support system and wonderful parent teacher relationships.
