  • The teacher in the elementary class is an AMI certified instructor and is fabulous. My child is a first grader and reading beyond the 3rd grade level. I am extremely pleased with the elementary level class. It is full of interesting lessons and a very rich environment. I would recommend it highly.

  • My son is enrolled in the Toddler Program for children 2-3 years of age. The "teacher" for this class is not an accredited Montessori teacher. During Parents Night, the teacher for the toddler class read a handout to the parents and had difficulty reading the handout which was written in English. The teacher is from Columbia and English is not her primary language. This in and of itself is not a problem; however, her inability to communicate effectively in English and her inability to read a handout in the English language is a problem. I had difficulty understanding this teacher and she is unable to pronounce my sons name correctly.

The teacher and her assistant are overwhelmed and unable to effectively manage and pay attention to the 14 children in their care. Although the toddler program is designed for 2 and 3 year olds, there are two infants in this class that are 18 months old. The infants require an inordinate amount of time and attention from the two person staff and take away from their ability to pay attention to the 12 toddlers in the class. My son is enrolled in the half day program and returned home one day with dried and caked on feces in his diaper. On two other occasions, he returned home with a saturated diaper.

I have had the opportunity to observe the class through an observation window on four occasions. I noticed the teacher was primarily concerned with the care of the two infants and was unable to dedicate much time to the other toddlers. Even when my son attempted to directly interact with the teacher, he was ignored and sent away. On one occasion in particular, my son was excited about a picture he found in one of the books available. When he tried to show this picture to the teacher, she took the book away from him, closed it, and told him to sit down.

Although this school is a member of the American Montessori Society, the only accredited Montessori teacher is the Directress, Nneka Okala. I had thought that all the teachers were qualified and accredited when I enrolled my son; however, this is not the case and I believe the school mislead my wife and I in this regard. After observing the class I have come to understand that this school is really just a day care center. Unfortunately, the care that my son is receiving is below expectations.
