School Description

Explorations Academy:  An education that matters

Explorations Academy is a fully-accredited independent high school with a focus on preparing students to become effective global citizens in the 21st Century.

Now in its seventeenth year, Explorations has built a track record of helping young people develop critical thinking skills, creative problem solving strengths, advanced interpersonal skills, and global awareness.  Students are engaged in a challenging, college-preparatory curriculum while also participating in frequent field outings and service projects.  These out-of-classroom experiences complement academic studies, underscore the relevance of education to the real world, and provide students with an exciting, world-class education.

Small class sizes with lots of adult attention help students to rise to the pinnacle of their ability level, both academically and in terms of character development.  Through an emphasis on citizenship and stewardship, students gain a sense of themselves as contributing members of both the school community and society as a whole.  They develop leadership strengths, conflict resolution strategies, and the ability to effectively manage group projects.

All students engage in international travel as part of their Explorations Academy education.  Each year, faculty lead a month-long overseas study and service expedition to places as diverse as Peru, Kenya, Thailand, Guatemala, Ireland, India, Cuba, and Indonesia.  These expeditions provide students with in-depth exposure to other cultures and the opportunity to gain a profound level of self-understanding.
