I was a member of the 2nd to last class to graduate from SJNS. The school folded up the year after (June 2006) due to ongoing financial troubles and a lack of enrollment. The teachers and staff, almost without exception, were superb, and have all moved on to other things. The school did NOT just do grades 9-12 (though its earliest years, before I came, this may have been true), it served grades 7-12 to try and boast enrollment. Many of the families going there could not afford the enrollment, and thus the school was perpetually underbudgeted. However, this did not affect the quality of teaching, as one of the teachers even worked for free for a semester, while others received a pitance. The years I was present saw a change in director, several teachers leave, and numerous changes to documents such as the code of conduct we were required to uphold. The new director was increasingly strict by the year, particularly on dress. This, and the final director, who appeared to be a smelly used car salesman, scared many away. The reliance upon waitlisters from Seton School in Manassas further complicated enrollment issues. By the end, the school had over $30000 in unpaid tuition to deal with, and the frequent pleading for funds (as usual) fell on deaf ears. Also, the church that we were based out of left the Episcopal Church, and tried to move to a new location, selling the land to contractors. With no money, no building, and nearly no students, the school was forced to shut down after the class of '06 graduated. I watched my HS disappear before my eyes, a sight I will never forget.
