Founded by progressive education pioneer, Clara Bell Baker, in 1918, Baker Demonstration School serves close to 400 toddlers through eighth grade students. In the 21st century, Baker continues its mission as a demonstration school whose outstanding faculty study how children learn and mentor the next generation of teachers. • This school continues to have identity issues, with the administration changing each year and many of the good, experienced teachers having left. There is little oversight from the front office and teachers are free to apply curriculum the way they want, which leads to some good teaching and some very poor teaching, depending on the approach. Some students have left because of bad experiences with teachers and nothing is done about it. The concept was great, but this school has moved far away from its positive roots.
