Gary Schools

Gary Community School Corporation provides educational services for the public schools in Gary. Students in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade have to wear uniforms. In the near future, the high school students will be required to wear school uniforms. There are several elementary schools, three middle schools, four high schools, and a magnet school in the district as well as the private schools. Lincoln Achievement Center is a special needs school for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Another special school is Emerson School for Visual and Performing Arts for students in sixth through twelfth grades. William Merritt Chase Alternative School is an alternative school for students in seventh through twelfth grade. Besides these schools, there are two college campuses for students who want to increase their academic skills and to pursue a career. Indiana University Northwest, which is located in Gary, has a College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Economics, School of Education, School of Nursing and Health Professions, and others.
