  • My child has attended since Pre-K and is now in 2nd grade. We have been very pleased with the school overall so far. The curriculum is intense, but they successfully emphasize organizational skills and, being that there is little in the way of distraction, the children are able to focus heartily on school work. The administration does not put up with any foolishness from any student, and that definitely allows kids to spend their class time actually learning. Lake Castle seems to excel at laying a very good foundation for self discipline and real learning. Although the school isn't perfect, its positives outweigh its negatives, in my opinion. For example, some of my child's classes have been way to large (30 !), especially for a “private school”. Secondly, I wish they had a library. Lastly, I wish they offered music, or a band class. I DO like that they offer computer education and typing at an early age. I also like the fact that they offer some extracurricular activities, like art and chess (and more). The school's lunch is not free, but it is good and it is affordable. I also really like the fact they have before and after school care available, from 7-8am and 3-6pm., again, it's not free, but it is affordable, and it's in a safe environment. I know it sounds corny, but there have been times when I've picked up my child from after care

  • My child is in 2nd grade now and has attended LC since pre-K. It has been my experience so far that it is a good, healthy environment, one with few distractions - so the kids are able to focus easily on learning. They appear to have excellent disciplinary guidelines in place, accelerated curriculum and my kid just seems genuinely happy there. The class work is rigorous and my child has definitely been taught well, I mean, I can see results all the time. I do like the fact that they teach computer skills from an early age. There are also several extra-curricular clubs, like art and chess, available to the students. The administration does not put up with any foolishness whatsoever from any student, which delights me to no end. Also, I have always felt that the communication lines remain open between parents, staff and faculty. I have been very pleased overall, though it has some room for improvement. Two things I have not liked too much are that 1) some of her class sizes have been way too large, in my opinion (30 ), especially for a "private" school and 2) there is no library. It would also be nice if the children had the opportunity to take music classes, as I did in my Orleans Parish PUBLIC elementary school oh-so-long ago. Other than that, however, it has definitely been worth the affordable tuition and I have to say, the atmosphere is downright Rockwellian at times when I've picked my child up from aftercare. That's another plus, the before and after school care, 7-8am, and 'til 6pm in the afternoons. It's not free, but it's affordable. The school lunch is also much better than I remember having. Overall, so far it seems that Lake Castle offers a very sound learning foundation for high school - they teach the subject matter well, and instill organizational skills for sure, but above and beyond that, they have constant, consistent, high expectations regarding manners and appropriate/acceptable social comportment.
