  • I attended Uniontown Elementary School as a child. I now have two of my own children attending there. I think that the teachings today are very different. I feel that some of the teacher's there are not there for the best interest of the child, but a paycheck. My son is currently in the 6th grade. One of his teachers have what is called a "smart side" and a "slow/dumb side" i think that is very inappropriate. Children learn things in different ways. Some learn better from other children and others don't. That does not mean there has to be a difference made among them. I think this way of teaching is wrong. What does it mean? Is it that the smarter children will get more of that teachers attention and the slower children will be left behind. People have complained of this teacher for years with no success and that is just unreal. When I was in school the teachers made us get our lessons and the subjects were reviewed on a regular basis. Now everything is just from week to week. So many of our children graduate from the Uniontown School system and are not able to make it in college because of lack of knowledge and this is because they only memorize and not learn the lessons. I would love for my children to continue at the school in which I've graduated from but at this rate, I am seriously thinking of removing my children from the Uniontown/Perry County School System and entering them in a private school. It hurts me to know that the teachers are so different now. The teacher would like for the children to respect them and in all ways they should, but respect goes both ways. I was not raised to disrespect my adults and I have not raised my children to disrespect their adults.
