  • my child attends discovery- the school building itself is very nice, the facilities are clean and the office staff does seem organized with teachers who are current on teaching methods and strategies. Overall I would say that it is a 'good' school, but I would not say 'great'- as it seems to have earned that reputation in the area. I believe this is because the surrounding schools are really in need of funding and fixes, repair and better equipped educators. Discovery is lacking a personal feel- those that work there are not overly friendly - they are too busy with HUGE class sizes to have the chance to get to know many parents, etc and also seem to be using a lot of the class time to distribute kids into groups which are then run by aids and parent volunteers much of the time. where they carry out very basic, textbook lesson plans as quickly as they can to meet the minimum state standards. There are a lot of areas in the day that could be better used but they are also burdened with the responsibility of correction behavior due to their inclusion method as well as the unavoidable student that doesn't get the proper discipline, support, behavior modification etc at home (same old story since the beginning of time I think). overall, as far as a public school we are apparently lucky our address is within Discovery's boundaries. heads up to others unfamiliar with the school, just because it's the 'best' in the area doesn't mean it's actually 'the best' rather 'better' than the surrounding underfunded and ignored public school options.
