As a high school student at PMHS, I honestly love the school. It's a small school that has a lot of heart. The best thing about a small school, is that everyone knows your name, even if they have never met you, they have heard your name. Another thing, everyone excepts others like brothers and sisters. Portal is a loving community and the school is great. LETS GO PANTHERS!! c/o 2009!
If I had to describe Portal in one word it would be the word Family! I moved to Portal and only lived there for one year and i feel as if that's my hometown, as if I grew up there. The schools are the best schools I have been enrolled into in Georgia, and that's a lot of schools! They are so caring there and everyone in the office is nice. Everyone in school knows everyone. The principle knows almost all of the students by first middle and last names. If he doesn't know them at first, he will by the end of the year. The teachers are so understanding and they are all willing to help you in whatever problem you have in any subject. Especially Senor Hattaway, Mr. Albertson, Mrs. Franklin and Mrs. Dyer. They helped me through so much when I was there and they can and will do the same for anyone who needs it. Hattaway didn't even know me and if I was walking down the breezeway my ninth grade year and I seen him all I did was say" hola" and he would always quickly respond with "hola chica que tal?" it was a good feeling knowing that the teachers were comfortable enough to be themselves and be silly while teaching their classes. They always made sure to keep the lesson interesting whether it was jumping on desks and yelling(amusingly) or picking on people for sleeping and watching really good movies. Some would make sure our weekend went well and then tell us about theirs and how when they went to the grocery store to get things for lunch for that week and ended up buying everything the kids wanted (diet coke coke and I think the other one was mountain dew), or cuss at us and use "inappropriate" language to keep us going. Those were the days. It kept us motivated and kept us strong. It reminded us of how much fun learning and well teaching can be. Every one of my teachers I had in portal influenced me in some way. Some made me want to be a teacher. One made me want to be a chef. One even made me want to get into a biological field of some sort. Every one of them played a role in my life. They all made me feel important and they all kept me informed of college opportunities and schooling opportunities. The upward bound project was probably the most important part of Portal. It was a program offered by GSU through the high schools near by and it helped me greatly. Thank you Mrs. Perkins, Mrs. Lee, and Mr. Newson for all of your hard work in making sure us as students make it in life as successors! The students in portal all became my brothers and sisters. They were always there to help me when I needed it whether it was a subject in school or a problem in my home life or my friends life they were there listening and helping me through thick and thin. They are willing to lend a hand when needed. Everyone helps everyone and you aren't discriminated against because of the amount of money you have, the color of your skin or what kind of clothes you wear. It didn't matter that you had wal*mart everything or that you lived in a beat up old made to make it house. As long as you were living. That was all that counted. It is still this way today. My very best friends are there. They are some of the best group of people that you will ever meet. There are farmers, teachers' kids, and kids that don't get brand new cars when they turn sixteen. They are all different but all one big family. They don't judge and they don't compare you to something your not or pick on you because of something you can't control. They don't care about materialistic items. They care about the heart. I am very lucky to have gotten the chance to meet the wonderful bunch of people that live in portal Georgia. I have the upmost respect for the small town people in portal. I would like to live there and raise a family there one day. That would be fulfilling to me. Small town and good kids. Thank you to everyone in portal. That's not too many people because it is so small but it means a lot to me that you are all raised wit such respect and courtesy. Great job ya'll, I appreciate the hospitality!

Im in college now and I just got out of portal high school and I would like eveyone to know portal is not as bad as you think when you go to college you wish you were sitting back in mrs tanks and franks class you don't know what they ment to you the whole time so take yoyur time and don't grown up to fast!! love you guys!!!
I love this school!!!!!! The sports are alot of fun. The teachers are so easy to get along with and will bend over backwards for thier students. I have already spent three years with this school and I would rather go to this school then any other in the area. The principal of this school keeps everyone in check. We don't have too many fights and drugs are rarely found. Lots of students achieve good grades, this school encourages good effort. Homeworok is giving but it doesn't take three hours to do if you pay attention in class. This school really works for thier students. Most of the students can go to any teacher and ask anything and they will give the best advice possible.
