  • Lane got a new principal in fall of 2010. He worked for a short time and then went missing, possibly on medical leave, but we don't know BECAUSE THE PARENTS WERE NOT INFORMED. Local Fox news channel ran a story about it. Discipline problems still run rampant. In the budget cuts, many energetic, new teachers were cut and certifiably insane, tenured teachers, kept. One teacher carries complete conversations with herself (with hand gestures and everything) and does not teach at all. Despite repeated complaints- still there. There are a few really great teachers, but they are limited due to the discipline problems. I am thankful that my child is almost finished with this school.

  • This school should be better. There is no excuse for it, but at this point Lane is NOT a good school. I would rate the quality of teachers as "fair - good." They have some really awful, tenured teachers that do nothing - I really mean NOTHING. Some of the others have the knowledge/will to be good, but due to awful student discipline problems, don't get the chance. There is a low emphasis on academics. If you have a child that is above average - they will not be served here. In fact, they will do nothing, but idle at this school. In 2010, FWCS will eliminate honors classes (English & Science) and it will be far worse. The PTA is practically non-existent (not for lack of trying) and as a result there is little in the way of extracurricular activities. No dances, no pep rallies...nothing. There are clubs, but they are the same every year (not progressive), they all meet at the same time, on the same day of the week, so your child can only be active in one. Frankly, it is a depressing school and I regret that I have kept my child there. If you have a choice, Blackhawk Middle is nearby and a substantially better school. Lane gets a new principle in 2010-11, maybe it will make a turn for the better.
