  • The Allison Elementary School has been given awards, but I gave a presentation there and, first, the students couldn't begin to understand it, and second, the students were rude, noisy, and disrespectful. These kids can't possibly be taught until their parents learn to parent.

  • A few years ago I would have given the system an A+. However, after 2 of our 3 children had been attacked by other students and one called "too fat" by a rather portly teacher himself, and the insular nature of giving awards (i.e., you must live here a couple of generations not just 16 years as we have), we have become somewhat disappointed. We have one child left to graduate and if we had any young elementary children we would most likely move to another district or opt for private school.

The HS and JHS have improved tremendously with the addition of new principals, Mr. Lawrence (HS) and Mr. Dizney (JHS), these schools have at least improved academically. Unfortunately, several veteran teachers from the HS have retired in the last few years and we wish the school board would choose more qualified teachers.

Overall, while I would recommend the JHS and the HS, for the time being, I believe that the Speedway Community must become less "insular" by allowing all parents who volunteer to become actively involved in the system. As it is, they do not do so and the system suffers as a result, both academically and culturally.
