  • Parents should be concerned about the education their children get at the school they attend and the teachers that interact with them on a day-to-day basis,...not necessarily how the administration does or does not adhere to what you believe is right. And as an alumni of an alma mater I have high praise for, the old counselor did not just tend to the brightest students...she tended to every student who needed her-ALWAYS. And yes, sports have always been a big deal at Bay-just as they are everywhere else and we've pretty much always had the Booster Club to raise money for them. I don't know the current principal very well, but I do know in dealing with her by email, she has been very helpful and completely professional with me. Children who watch their parents complain on a regular basis grow up to be complainers as well...please remember the examples you set for you kids. It is okay to disagree with someone's choices or decisions-it is not okay to run them down because they're beliefs do not agree with yours or because they do not do things the way you would. In order to be taken seriously, one should behave and voice their concerns like an adult.

  • Bay School is an overall excellent school. Mrs. Cobb has always conducted herself in a professional manner towards myself and my children. Some of the changes in the curriculum where implemented to give students other options. (There are a variety of textbooks available for Biology--I am sure if evolution was an issue--Mrs. Cobb would have found a different textbook.) The former counselor left because she was in poor health and had been at Bay for at least thirty years. The current counselor at Bay is only there part time and focuses strictly on the academic needs of the brightest students. (This does need to be addressed, but it was that way with the former counselor.) The staff/faculty members are helpful, ready to assist students, and compassionate. Sports do take precedence over other school activities; however, it has not always been this way. I do believe teachers have the responsiblity to step up to the plate and make their programs as good as they can be. In the past Bay has won numerous science awards (students are not longer required to participate), music awards, art awards --all on local and state levels. Bay has several organizations which have enjoyed state and national successes. Please take note, the athletic departments are very successful and due in part to the Coaches. They conduct a basketball camp each year as a fund raiser and the Booster Club (which is parent sponsered) raises money for needs the athletic department has. The school does need a second art teacher and other languages should be offered. Bay is a wonderful school, embraced by the community, and loved by its students.

  • The Principal of Bay High school, Mrs Jodi Cobb, has a high disapproval rate. She has on several occasions been less than professional to parents and sometimes students. She got rid of the handbook comity and instead put herself in charge of the handbook. She also got rid of advanced placement Biology and put advanced placement environmental science in its place. It is speculated that she made the change because advanced placement biology taught to much evolution. It is speculated that the former counselor quit because she wasn't doing her job properly and leaving most of her responsibilities up to the counselor. She was replaced by a part time high school counselor.

Students at Bay High School are encouraged to do well by teachers as well as other students.

Teachers are generally involved with their students and offer help to who ever asks for it. They are kind and ready to assist with knowledge and encouragement.

Basketball is the be all and end all of Bay High School. Everything else takes a back burner to Basketball. Other activities fall short because so much is being spent on basketball and other sports. No other group gets money given to them like the sports teams do. They must go about raising money themselves while the school provides the sports teams with equipment and shirts. There are new coaches hired when what the school actually needs is a full time counselor and a second art teacher. They assign all of elementary and all of high school students to one art teacher.

The campus as two gyms, a safe room, a cafeteria that doubles as a auditorium complete with a stage. Each classroom as an emergency plan book with procedures on how to proceed during any emergency. There are several drill throughout each year.

School work is assigned appropriately for each grade and a student is never given more then they can handle. All work is appropriate for the student.
