  • It saddnes my heart to have come back to visit my alma mata and witness first hand how the morals of the students have changed so greatly. I left with tears in my eyes for the teachers and staff having to try to motivate children who have little or no respect. I once was proud to say I was educated at Bay Springs Middle School, but after seeing how lacking the parents in the area are in teaching their children to have pride in how far they have come after all the hard work Dr. king and others ( black & White ) did on their behalf, I left wondering if all the hard work our forefathers did was really worth it . What I saw was children with no pride at all in their school, home or self.

  • As a former student of the West Jasper School District and an educator for the state of Georgia, it dissapoints me to see how the moral and learning environment of the West Jasper School District has diminished over the years. I have several school aged family members of the WJSD and, it saddens me to wittness thier unmotivated spirit towards their education. I am a firm believer that it takes both the home and school to foster and motivate a child's learning and from speaking with an array of students (both high performing and struggling) the WJSD is failing tremendoulsy in this area. In addition, I feel that our students are not being challenged and prepared to compete with other students in the U.S. My support for this statement is as follows: (1.) There are no high school prepatory courses for language arts. This is detramental to students who are competing for scholarships at top notch schools and even greater, if a student happens to transfer to another district, they are ineligible for graduation honors. (2.) Students who received high honors are ill-prepared for college and find themselves struggling to meet and keep up with the demands of college courses. My intentions are not the degrade my alma mata, but simply to draw attention to the much needed change that the system is in dire need of. I understand the pressure that our teachers and schools are under to prepare competent citizens. I also understand that our parents are lacking in the areas of parenting, however, as educators we must not use these elements as barriers to providing our students with the best education possible.
