- Why does Voy Spears (or the State of Missouri for that matter) still emphasize cursive writing when nobody in the real world uses it because nobody can read it? I have a BSME from MU (3.4 GPA in my major), and I always PRINTED my notes in college (though I did take typing and shorthand in high school). Nobody writes cursive in the modern day business world - we either print or TYPE. Now, here is a revolutionary concept - teach 2nd and 3rd graders how to TYPE (rather than write cursive) so they may learn real skills like how to use a word processor to "write" a thank you letter, book report or student council election speech.
