  • The school isn't that bad! It just seems like ALL the Honors classes are being cut back, and there are so many budget cuts. I feel it is not fair at all for young adult planning on attending an Ivy League school. So many classes and courses are being cut. There is a pretty good ART department, but I imagine there will be more cuts this year. the schools offerings are not the greatest.

  • I am now a junior at Dryden High School, and I couldn't agree more with the reviews below. Not only are the administrators dictatorial, they are completely out of touch with their students. They simply do not listen to what we have to say. Whenever a student is sent into the assistant principals(Mr. Sweet) office, the student's side is always ignored. No matter how logically you present it, arguing your case is a zero-sum game. You basically have to nod your head, and deal with whatever they give you.

As far as the atmosphere goes, many students in the school agree that it feels like a maximum security prison. When you first try to enter the school, you will find that all of the doors are locked, and you must be 'buzzed in'. Students are not allowed to go outside(yes, including the courtyard!), students can not leave the school(to get a decent lunch), and no electronic devices are allowed. Even personal computers are forbidden.

As far as faculty, its really hit and miss there. They are many great teachers, but I have had teachers who simply could not do their jobs which severely hamper my performance on state tests. I once asked my english teacher what a participle was, and instead of answering the question, he made it the homework to look up what "Participal" meant. He had no idea how to spell it.

If you are a parent and are looking for a school to send your child to, I would recommend a place like Ithaca High School or even Lansing. The students are treated like people there. They can walk around without being bothered by a principal asking you to empty your pockets randomly to check for cell phones(Yes, that really happens here!) At Ithaca, students are allowed to have electronic devices during non-instructional times(sounds reasonable right? not to Dryden)

It truly is sad that I can not be proud of the high school I attend but instead direct people to another school that Dryden considers a competitor.

  • I attended this high school within the last decade and I must agree with the other review by a student. If u move to Dryden, drive your kids to another, better school for an actual education...the treatment of students by the principal and assistant principal is appauling! They are treated lower than dirt and if u have a problem, u better believe that they don't want to hear ur excuse-they simply don't care!

  • Parents, please don't let your children attend this school.
If you need to move in this area, i would recommended locating in Ithaca or Cortland. Dryden High School is very cliquey. People are constantly being left out of activities. I'm just saying this for your own good, you do NOT want your child to attend this environment. Most people in this school end up being depressed, beat up, and in counseling. This school doesn't even do anything about the bullying. The assistant principal, Mr. Sweet (which his name totally does not fit him), treats people like they're going in to jail when he speaks with them. Students shouldn't feel like they're in prison or "locked up," they should feel comfortable in their school's environment, although, in Dryden High School, it's defiantly not the case. Please do me this favor, be careful in your decision with enrolling your child into Dryden High School. New people don't get treated to well. It's a horrible, i mean HORRIBLE place to get an education at.
