  • When my daughter was attending East the expectations of success were taken for granted, by both her and myself. When she later attended a small college in upstate NY she was AMAZED at not only how easy the courses were (she started as a sophomore and earned an award for the highest GPA of 4.0) but by the low test scores on the SAT's of her new classmates, compared to those of her high school classmates. This was echoed by ALL her friends from universities and colleges across the country!!

I am a single mother, and work a menial job (third shift in a grocery store). She was tagged as an 'in need' child because of that, and given access to extra help -- a course that not only provided practice tests for the PSTA and SAT, and pushed them to consider college as the path they would follow; but also provided expansion courses during the summer and on Saturdays at UNC and a local private school to expand their horizons. My daughter will graduate law school (in 3.5 years) this December.
