  • SEMS, to me was one of the best middle schools in Edgecombe County, in which there were only 2, but the point I'm trying to make is that it offered so much more. The academic's were on point, in sports, we dominated, lunch was even alright. This was back in 2004 when I first started attending this school up until 2007, which was my last year. Teachers like, Ms. Pritchard a math teacher, Mrs. Dancy who taught science (who is now at Carver), Mr. Herring who taught music education/chorus (who is now at Phillips, and will soon be a principal), and a number of other strong-willed teachers are the ones who really keep SEMS afloat. I really hate it for the student there now, because they are truly missing out on a REAL educational experience!

  • This is an okay school, but the academic rate has seem to have fail since Mr. Ellis left. When he left, the school's reading objectives and others went down in rate and percentage. I haven;t really seen a mature situation to explain or come upon an agreement of how this could be improved. Most of the faculty and staff don't set horses well with eachother. Therefore there's no good ground for the children to uproot on. The adults are not setting good examples for these kids like they should. I have no problem with the uniform, but i do find it questioning because I was told the uniforms were there to stop the kids from picking on each other. It seems to me more picking is happening now just because of what some one's uniform looks like. You can;t stop kids from being kids. It just won't happen. Also the kids are still having saggy pants and loose long or maybe too tight shirts and pants, so what's the difference besides the colors. This school could use a lot of improving. Mrs. Mills and Mr. Grady need to get up and do something about it, as well as the faculty and staff!
