  • Um, hello, I am a rising senior at Hobbton High School, and two years after the fact I am still appalled when reading the comments made on this website and many others in reference to my high school and its controversial (now nonexistent--satisfied?) "flag" policy. Please allow me to just shed a little light on the situation for those who would and who have ignorantly bashed Hobbton with comments that prove you 1) obviously have not researched the situation thoroughly and 2) are so closed-minded that you would not stop to consider any sensible explanation of the situation. The decision by our principal to ban ALL flags (may I repeat, ALL FLAGS, not solely the flag of the United States) on school campus was a result of gang tensions within the school, some of which had become a real, palpable problem. (The irony of the situation is the huge problem ultra-conservatives have with gang violence, to the extent that the rowdier rightists call for deportation. Yeah. And I thought liberals were supposed to be the sensitive, picket-weilding reds?) Furthermore, the ban was not a result of any SENSITIVITIES or was not a by-product of a FEAR OF OFFENDING THOSE WHO DO NOT CHOOSE TO BEAR THE US FLAG; the ban was quite simply an administrative response to gang activity, an administrative response to prevent and discourage VIOLENCE on a SCHOOL CAMPUS. This decision was made by my principal and higher authorities after much thought and much debate, with the expectation that the atmosphere on campus would improve as a result. So, just for future reference, before you go bashing a school whose policies and day-to-day activities quite frankly have nothing to do with you, you may want to consider just a bit of research, and if not, I'll gladly clear it up for you again. And Communism? COMMUNISM? Please. Some people apparently have nothing better to do, much less write about. May I also add that I am a proud citizen of the United States of America. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • Will not allow the USA flag on it's premises, clothing, etc.

Please advise the director that the Civil War ended some years ago and that NC is still part of the US of A. If they don't like it, go get an education somewhere else. Too many immigrants in NC? Send them to Venezuela, Iran or North Korea. Why is the USA the only place that has to be tolerant? I will wear the flag proudly, and value the blood spilled by all American heroes in wars, abroad and within the USA.

    Wear the flag, dammit!

  • I thought I'd heard it all, till now. We are in America, our Flag should never be banned from any place! I am totally disgusted with this school & its anti-American ways. On 9/11 at that! You should be ashamed of yourselves!
