  • I have just finished my last year at Weddington Middle and I am honestly very surprised at some of these comments. I have loved Weddington (I know its weird coming from a student) and though no one likes uniforms they are not as strict as everyone seems. I dont know if its because the last rating was submitted 3 years ago or what but I have enjoyed all 3 of my years here, I have had great teachers, and got to use cool technology. Its clean, high-ranked school anyone would enjoy

  • I am a former student of Weddington middle school. I attended WMS from my 6th grade year to my 8th grade year. As a student I was active in the school, I made the honor role all 3 years that I attended, I was in the Jr. Beta Club, and I was a student athlete. The teachers were selfish and unkind, it was very rare to find a teacher that cared more about helping you than finishing the day. The administrators made completing the year as difficult as they could, and by this I do not mean they challenged us in our school work, but they challenged us by harsh punishment for little things, like tucking our shirts in. The so-called "dress-code" was the focus of our year, and continued to become harsher day by day. For example, if your shirt was untucked you would immediately be sent down to the office for disciplinary actions. Another major issue is the growing population. Even though Marvin Ridge is opening this fall, the school is far from reaching an acceptable capacity. Last year, there was a total of 41 trailers, and even 35 students per class. Next year, with half of the class leaving, several trailers will still remain. For my 8th grade year I had 4 trailers for all of my core classes. The school tries to keep their picture perfect image, although you would be surprised at how imperfect this school really is. I would encourage any parent looking to move into this area to look much deeper than just this school's website.

  • This school fails in terms of its administration and the inability to connect with the parents and students. Communication is poor. The rules are rigid, and even a few untucked shirts will land a student in a day or more of suspension. The focus is not on learning, it is on punishing.

  • Weddington Middle is a very good school. My son chose to go there over other schools. The teachers have been very attentive and helpful. The administration seems to be doing a great job of keeping order even though there are too many students currently.

  • I have had four children go through this school in the past seven years. Thankfully, we had many positive teacher experiences. Children are not allowed to make mistakes without the most severe of consequences, yet when adults in this school treat children with disrespect, to include verbal and emotional abuse, or losing control, throwing objects in class, the adults are not held accountable. The communication is poor, Weddington Middle School has never shared teacher email addresses on its web site, they were added this year after the district office made the principal do so. The name of the game in this school is power, and catching the children making minor mistakes, and pouncing on them. It is the worst of environments. I celebrate the fact that we are done with this school!

  • Weddington Middle School has administrative issues. The school culture is negative and punitive. There are many teachers who are positive and love children. Unfortunately, the tone from the top down is negative. The principal does not foster relationships with parents and students, in fact, she is distant, cool, and rigid.
The school is very overcrowded, which magnifies all problems. Don't challenge any adults in this school, even if your are right, you are wrong.
