  • Hopkins Elementary currently has a principal who was tranferred over from another school within the district because a majority of the teaching staff and parents have had numerous unresolved issues and complaints about the former principal. Having two children there, I am quite dissapointed in some of the teachers and aides. They treat the students with such disrespect and are not proper role models. There are very little extracurrricular activities and absolutely no sports(other than 1x per week Phys. Ed) offererd for the children. The building is in fair condition, but the grounds, sidewalks, and certain parts of the playground need maintenance and some general sprucing up. The homework is appropriate for the age groups and classes. However, there are very little fieldtrips or interesting speakers/events which take place on school grounds. It's always the same lisst of school events from year to year- kindergarten to 5th grade. The only time when the school asks for parental involvement is when they need money or simply don't have enough able and willing bodies to handle the students. If you are moving to Mentor, then consider private school, such as St. Gabriels or St. Mary's. The teachers are more "hands on" there, and more emphasis is placed on each and every child. Also, bulleying is not quite the issue as it is in the public system.
