  • I know this is an old post, but I stumbled upon it just now.
I cannot believe you are a parent of a high schooler. That means you should at the very least be in your mid-late 30s or older. At that age, you should know better than to allow your child to fail a class, whether or not they need it to graduate. It's still a class and a responsibility. Extra curricular activities have ALWAYS been affected by failing grades. This is nothing new. I graduated from Churchill 19 years ago, and it was the same back then.
You're not "scum", but if the staff was not willing to "work with you", it's a no-brainer: you fail a class, you don't get to participate in (dance). Simple.
Hopefully this taught your daughter a lesson, as well as yourself: Don't slack off in school and expect special privileges. Everyone should pay the same price. It's only fair.

  • In defense of the school, involved parents know that failing a class will cause a student, involved in extra curricular activities such as sports or dance, not to be involved in that activity.
As a parent, I know that grades come first. Parents should get informed before "letting their child faila class." Which by the way, I can not understand how a parent can give their child permission to fail a course.
