  • THIS IS MY CHILDREN'S FIRST YEAR AT BASSETT ST. ELEMENTARY. AND I SEE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN MY CHILDREN OVER THE YEAR. THERE SELF ESTEEM HAS GONE WAY UP FROM THE OTHER SCHOOLS THEY HAVE ATTENDED. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN ATTENDING AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT MY KIDS SEEM TO BE A LOT HAPPIER THAN THE LAST FEW SCHOOLS THAT THEY HAVE BEEN TO. I JUST WANT TO SAY A BIG THANKS TO THE FACULTY AT BASSETT.

    SINCERELY YOURS,

    A MOTHER THAT CARES ;0)

  • i went to this school when a was in kinder garden and i stayed there until 4th grade when i moved. This school is great and gives the students an understanding in education. I personally think that my favorite teacher in there is Mrs.Mercado. Right now she is teaching 5th grade. She is a hard worker and a great teacher.

  • They are the best. My 2nd son will be starting in a few days! It is truly amazing how well they take care of children. They truly care. Each teacher is personally invested in the children, even if not in their own classroom.

  • English:
I attended Bassett Street Elementary School from 1st - 5th grade many years ago. I had only one teacher at BSES who made an impact in my life and believed in me. Beside that, I felt the school was too crowded (too many classrooms and students) and less space to play. I also remember there was not enough supervision. In first and third grade I was touched by classmates. I was afraid. Be careful, even some young children are not innocent. I am now 26 years old and I am a graduate student. I can not forget what happened to me in elementary school. It was the worst years of my life. Yet, not long ago, I drove and visited the school. It is in worse condition. There are more kids and classrooms. All the children are in different tracks (it's a year round school). You be the judge!

    Some recommendations:
    1. Ask your child how his or her day was?
    2. Talk to your child's teacher about his or her progress in class at least once a week.
    3. Drop off and pick up your child in his or her classroom.
    4. Ask your child who his or her friends are?
    5. Ask your child who he or she does not like at school? Why?
    6. Not matter how old your child is, ask many open-ended questions.
