  • I have 4 children whom attended JEC....and I think that it is a terrific school. 2 have graduated from there and my other 2 will be doing so over the next 2 years. Jefferson sometimes gets a bad wrap, because of it's location. Not every child that attends there are economically challenged....perhaps the person whom stated that ....she take a better look around this area. This is not a high crime rate area anymore and the neighbors have improved very well.

  • The school is challenged by the population it serves- a large geographic area, many of the most crime ridden neighborhoods/ deep rural areas and a high free lunch rate. Many parents lack the resources they need and some lack the parenting skills they need. Principal wants to all children to be included, which is wonderful- but a small minority of children who need mental health care or who are behavioral challenges make it difficult for teachers to focus on those who want to learn. I find the teachers very caring, but the school has so many social issues, it makes teaching harder. Parents and teachers working together to get kids what they need out of school could make IN school at Jefferson great.
