| Review: | Hickory Elementary, under the direction of principal Marilyn Mulligan, purports to set an exemplary standard of excellence in education and values. With respectable tenents painted on the cafeteria walls, and practices of having a "best manners" table to award good behavior during lunch hour, at first glance it would appear that this school was beyond reproach. However, appearances can be deceiving, and any issues that involve children having difficulty with learning in the standard environment, or who require modifications by the staff, are issues that this school hands off to West Central Joint Services, hired to find children NOT in need of any services or to ensure that the school is not put out by accomodating them. Caveat Emptor: do not buy in this district, nor do too much to teach your child lest he or she be able to pass the outdated tests for special education eligibility; they will kick the child out any which way they can, even using taxpayers monies through defense of a due process case. My child missed services he urgently needed, and society will have to pay the price. Thank you, Hickory Elementary, and to those parents who don't consider Special Education space as necessary, although mandated by Federal Law. |
