  • As a community member reading the comments written by students attending Fred Lynn - I detect a much bigger problem to worry about than "uniforms." Focus needs to be reverted back to academic excellence. Please! The writing skills exemplified below are horrible. However, I do think uniforms is the answer to ensuring that students dress as such "students" and not (...) or (...).

  • First- I suspect some of the comments must be from miserable, spoiled, narrow-minded, elitest and/or underexposed folks who would complain under the of best situations. That is just what they do--it is always about them....and if it is not what I deem to be acceptable by my standards not matter how warped or skewed they may or may not be --then it is simply bad or wrong....

The school has some challeges but has made strides over the last few years that are commendable. More work needs to be done but that is understandable and will happen as long the principal is allowed to her job, the teachers step up to the plate and we get more parental participation especially from those who historically do not particpate (they are often the ones with the "challenging" students).

***students: please take the time to learn how to think and learn to make a coherent argument/complaint. It is painfully apparent that you have not. Rather than worrying about clothes and people only saying things that you want to hear--worry about improving the skills that you will need so that the rest of your life is not spent struggling to make ends meet on the lowest rungs of society or cycling in and out of prison. That being said.

**Uniform argument is a non-starter--Have way too many more truly things to be concerned with....small minds worry about small things.....If you do not think so check out the stats for American students tackling higher end science/math degree types versus a lot of the Asian/Indian students coming into the country. We are lagging behind at an alarming rate...........UNIFORMS are not your problem......move on.

    1) My son is on schedule to start algebra and will be entering his second year of spanish meaning he will enter high school with both math and foreign language credits. Check

    2) The school services a high number of economically/socially disadvantaged students and has its own special set of challenges. People either overly downplay the challenges facing handicapped (for a lack of better word) populations or sufficiently show their ignorance/superiority complex. Either case being unacceptable.

    3) The principal is a bit strong-willed and brash but given the circumstances it is required and necessary to bring about the change needed to move forward and address the challenges inherent when working in certain environments. She is doing exactly what needs to be done. Good for Her!!! KIDS: Newsflash...you may not always like your boss --not required--sooooooooo suck it up and move on---Lesson that should be learned early in life. She is there to do her job and you are there to do your job so get over it and perform or in about 6 years you will have no one to blame but yourself.

    4) There are some really great teachers there unfortunately there are some who are there to simply collect a check and have been allowed to do that for years and may be unhappy with the current administration requiring them to step up and DO THEIR JOB. If you (teacher) have low expectations for students becuase you are either lazy or have dim expectations for low-income/minority populations or a combination issue then you should move along--YOU and YOUR INADEQUATE services are no longer wanted. NEEDED: teachers with high expectations for both themselves and their students. You chose to go into education so put on your big kid panties and keep it moving.

    5) Teachers all over the place complain about supplies, administration, etc.-nothing new here -move along. Parental assistance would be helpful in this arena. Be the change that you would like see!!

    6) Compare the scores as a whole and individual sections. Understand the dynamics of education, the community, social/cultural impacts, etc. Educate yourself and do not simply accept off the cuff opinions (ex: Woodbridge is no soaring star....)

  • The school seems great, I took a field-trip there, but it has been said that the kids are bad. I think the school is great just not all the children. But looking at these comments from staff members,is like a slap in the face.LOL.But about the principal being racist, come on she looks mixed.Maybe she is rude, maybe it was all an act when we took our field trip, I don't know. You believe what you want to believe I'll stay neutral. But,honestly I don't wanna go to Fred Lynn, I should really be going to Beville but the transportation was a problem,so I guess I got to suck it up and deal with it.They'll see how smart I am.
    Thx

  • this school is not the best you can do for your children. people say that uniforms cost you less, but thats very wrong. the cost of a few uniform sets alone isn't alot, but your kids aren't wearing uniforms at home or out places. so in reality, you are paying for contemperary clothing and uniforms. its a waste of money. slaping a uniform to the back of your child wont otomaticaly make them calm. the school has gotten worse after the switch. i just dont have trust in this principal.

  • As a teacher, I will say that many of the comments reflected here in the other posts are accurate. I don't believe that the person who spelled racist as "racess" is a staff member, but perhaps someone ( a student?) who used this identity as a cover. The teachers at this school are incredible. The administration is unfair, with chaotic policies (such as multiple schedule changes) that actually incite bad behavior in the students and negative morale amongst staff. The uniform policy has improved behavior, and wasn't as big an issue as some may believe. Other issues related to scheduling, unpredictability, supplies, testing schedules, favoritism, and a lack of support for new teachers, had a greater impact on overall school climate this year. For new parents coming into the school, I encourage you to get involved. Make your voice heard and be your child's best advocate.

  • As a new parent to this school district it seems very disheartening to see the comments regarding the school. I have heard some negative comments about this school, but do plan to see for myself. The uniform issue is not a problem as kids can express themselves through their clothing after school, I do not agree that what a child wears determines his learning ability. All the schools are struggling with funding as that seems to be the first thing that the govt. takes from so having to contribute school supplies is not a rare thing at any school. It is scary that as I read the reivews and see that the misspelled words are from staff members does make me wonder about the teaching ability of the staff, but that remains to be seen.

  • I think that the school is not so great. First of all, there's the uniform policy. It's not quite fair. Studies say that even though schools with uniforms may have a chance of bringing up grades, there's also a chance of students slacking off because of no creatvitiy. Other studies show that schools with no uniforms have a higher chance of bringing up grades. The creativity really uplifts the students spirit (coming from a student)!
Second, I've noticed that the school has been quite low on respect and supplies.
Third, the attitude of the school! I mean nothing bad toward the principal, but she's very disrespectful and rude toward both students and staff. This should not be tolerated. She should've been fired LONG ago!
Last, the school is just plain crappy. Nothing more to it. Sorry Fred Lynn, but I'd prefer Woodbridge Middle!
Please take these comments to consideration.
    Thanks!

  • I believe that the school uniform here is great. Public school doesn't not mean not to wear uniform, there are a lot of public schools that have uniforms. The money you spend on uniforms, is the money you actually save in casual clothes, because they will last a lot longer. The comment that stated "what if parents didn't have the money", the school helps parents who do not have money, so that is not the issue. I have seen a lot of students making of others because they are not wearing the latest trends. I have seen older men looking at our students like if they were a piece of meat, because they are so develop that they think it is a woman instead of a 14 year old. I have seen boys get in trouble with older guys, so I really think the uniforms have a great sense of security. You know how many students cut school and nobody knows about it because they have normal clothing, but now, nobody is going anywere. If you don't like Fred M. Lynn uniform policy. Then move!!!! Things have improved, and about the absenses if a student is sick, bring a Dr's note the day he is back!!!! and the secretaries are not bad. The Principal, sure thing is tough but the secretaries are love bugs.

  • this is a very disadvantaged school with a monster for a principal! The administration is extremely unorganized, rude, condescending, and mistreats students and especially staff. There is no access to paper or photocopies without prior approval and classroom supplies and nonexistent...not so much as a pack of pens! The attitude being that teachers are expected provide the materials for class and they better not complain about it!
Very negative work environment, teachers are bullied by administration and unhappy.

  • This school sounds like a wonderful school but i think they should change the kids wearing uniforms.Clothes is what shows the kids what there about and you learn a lot from what kids wear and, even though kids won't have to talk about what other kids are wearing that's why the teachers should keep an open eye for things like that and/or should have bullying programs so the kids know how wrong it is to bully. When kids can wear what they want and the teachers are great they could say wow this school is so great you would love it. By now it's more like this school suck we wear uniforms and pay for being absent and, what if there parents don't have the money and your telling them if your school for more than three days a well come to school and if they do come to school while sick and get other kids sick you won't have any students. Now don't get me wrong this school sounds like a great school and it even sounds fun by people she go to school and say I can't wait until tomorrow. Please take my letter into consideration Thanks.
