  • The education is great, as I went there for 5 years, but they do play favorites there.
If you go to church there, then you get special treatment, and if your parent works there, you get more special treatment.
I went through 5 years of misery since I was different than the rest of the school (overweight) and was constantly teased. Nothing was done, and even when I told people, nothing happened. The teacher's are fantastic, as is the curriculum, but it is unfair that the school give discounts and special-treats the kids who go to church there.
Spanish is awful, though. I took it for 5 years, and learned almost nothing.
I don't know if they are offering art again, or are being more fair in the music department (church kids got all the roles and parts)
As for the homework load, it feels as if knowledge is being shoved down your throat. There is no time to just breathe, and by the time that you get home and to 2-4 hours worth of homework, there is no time to be a kid. The strictness is ridiculous, as even the 8th kids are forced to sit in assigned seats even at lunch, the only time students are allowed to relax during the day.
The strictness is unnecessary, as students are handed 'marks' for every little thing.
My younger brother went there for 2 years as well, and his time was also miserable. The majority of students go the church, even though there are well over 200.
Not all the teacher's make good decisions, and church kids are the ones who are chosen for everything.
As someone who went through 5 years of misery at that school, I don't recommend it. The only upside is the curriculum, but do you really want to sacrifice your child's childhood for this?
It's up to you, but I know this school caused me depression, and it was only after I got out of it that I finally was myself again.

  • My daughter attended BNCS during the 2006-2007 school year as Pre-K (K-4). Not only did she come out of her shell, but she has excelled in everything. I have a different child! The entire staff is wonderful and very loving. The school is small enough (K-4 - 8th) that all of the staff and students know one another. As a four year old, my daughter left knowing some Spanish, how to read, how to tell time, basic measurements with a ruler, Bible verses, basic addition, etc. One could not find a better learning environment then BNCS (now Firewheel Christian Academy). Plus, the fees for education and before and after school care are cheaper then her sitting around at day care looking at other children. A+++++++++++++++++++
