  • Today, I received a call from (Dean of Students) at the school regarding my son who has had many challenges trying to complete his 12th grade education in the DCPS system. The words that he left on my answering machine was an answer to prayer. It is very difficult to come from under stereotypes that our African American males face in this day and time. But I can truly say that prayer changes things and that your staff responded in a way that held my son accountable for his actions and for the first time in his academic career he actually worked out the teacher and administrative crisis for himself. Not only did he resolve this situation in a manly fashion it opened a door for him to gain a license/certification in the field of culinary arts which has been a desire of his heart.

I have never stop working for my community in Ward 8 and helping young people across this city so it really feels good when the community can give to me and that's what you've done today. Many, many, many thanks to you and the great job that you do for our young adults.
