  • The school is wonderful as far as student to teacher ratios, and the teaching quality is excellent. The homework load is well balanced. Safety is well thought of, and the teachers really have a heart for their students. There is a wide variety of sports to choose from as well as other electives and clubs. Since the student population is small, it gives more children a chance to participate while also giving a chance for the teachers and administrators to actually know the students. Greenwood is a recognized school district in Texas due to it's high TAKS scores. Most of the children have high GPA's and do well on the SAT. Greenwood has a strict behavior and dress code which is enforced. I have had children enrolled in GISD for 16 years now with more years to go and wouldn't change districts. Our property taxes are decent; however, I'm not crazy about the way our tax money has been spent at times. Hence, the missing apple in the rating.

I was brought up that you take care of responsibilities first and play later, but playing only if you have the money left over to do so after handling your responsibilities. I believe school monetary spending should reflect that ideal. I am the type of parent who isn't a sport parent, and I'm the type who believes that extracurricular activities are important but not the be all and end all that football and other sports seem to be. I want my tax money to go to education first and sports last. I don't believe we needed a new scoreboard for the highschool football field when copy paper and books were in short supply.
(*Please note that our current superintendent and others are not the same people who were in office at the time of this incident.)

Please also keep in mind that the one problem I've mentioned is just that; an easily fixed problem of which every school district in America can lay claim. The problem I mentioned is not gang or drug related, and is not violent in nature. I believe that if you are looking for a great school district, Greenwood is a wise choice.

(The preceeding commentary is purely and solely my own thoughts, feelings, and opinions.)
