  • My children have been in the Tri-West school district since first grade, and we have nothing but positive comments concerning our experiences. North Salem Elementary School and the Tri-West Middle School were both wonderful times for our children. They had many extracurricular activities, and overall the kids seem to be extremely nice and conscientious. The teachers and principals were overall excellent.

We have also had good experiences at the High School. Regardless of what the other reviewers said, we did not see any evidence of bullying. My children have actually mentioned that they think their school has a LACK of mean and bullying kids. They know some children with developmental difficulties, and never saw them get made fun of or tormented/bullied by other kids. We have had specific conversations concerning this subject.

The help for kids with learning disabilities is available, so I'm not sure why people would think it isn't. I don't feel they favored kids with a "B" average or better, either. As a family with children that have a "C" average and difficulties, all the way up to a 3.8 average- we have seen no favoritism between them.

As far as sports, the great majority of kids will be able to be on any sports team they like at Tri-West. I have seen kids move in their freshman year and make the football/basketball teams, so I don't see that there is any actual prejudice. Every High School in Indiana is competitive, but at a smaller school like this your sports opportunities are GREATLY increased. For sports such as Cross Country, Track, and Swimming - anyone can be on those teams. They're always looking for participants.

This is a great school system, and we are very happy to be a part of it.

  • You will have problems if your child is not an A/B student. Guidance counselors do not help any student who is below a B average. So any learning disabilities, ie., dyslexia, ADHD, etc are not dealt with at all. Sports is very political; if your child is not part of "the" team at the age of 5 and up, then the odds are he will not make any team in the middle or high school. Tri-West is for the students who excel academically.

  • This is a good high school, my daughter graduated with a core 40 diploma despite being an outcast and not one of the popular girls, if I had anything bad to say it would only be that they should pay more attention to students bullying others and teach them tollerance of students who are different but as for the education your child will recieve it is a excellent school, my son will be going there soon and he is a special needs student and my only concern is how he will be treated by other students and if anyone will intervene and protect his feelings, the parents of students who bully and pick on people should be made aware and the students should have consiquences for there behaviour. Other than that this is an excellent high school.
