  • i went 2 mt hope from kindergarten through the 10th grade and i loved everything about it i played football and baseball there. now that is all history i go to tharptown high and its alot like it was there but its still not the same, i have been treated well and have made friends that i wouldnt trade for nothin. but everytime i drive by mt hope it all comes back. we have been takin away from our home and now i will be the first kid out ofmy family not to graduate from mt hope. i hope the board of education is happy they got there way. but if there is the one thing that our teachers and coaches taught us, its that no matter what happens you can make it through anything , dont ever give up. i will always be a yellow jacket. thank you to all my teachers and coaches you turned me into what i am and i wish nothing but the best for all of you.

  • Mount Hope School is one of the best schools anyone can go to. Everyone was excepted and made welcome. The teachers were very supportive. Almost through a year at a differnt school, I now know there is absolutly no place like Mount Hope. No where else will ever be home. We tried as hard as we could to keep our community school open. We gathered at school and prayed, we petioned, we done everything we could, but the board won. The boared doesn't know how small towns like us care. We do. When you go to a new and bigger school you don't get a chance to play sports or participate in everything you used to, and it's not fair. Our community makes people feel welcome. I haven't seen a new person come to Mount Hope and not get involved with the school programs, or attend school events. We aren't like Moulton or East Lawrence. We are small but we can do alot of things. Being in a smaller school setting is easier to learn than having a ton of people in a room at once. Now at new schools we do get called Mount Hope kid's. But we accept who we are because we will always be the Mount Hope kid's. I love Mount Hope, all the teachers, coaches, principals, and everyone who helps Mount Hope School. I love ya'll. Thank you for teaching us not only book stuuf but ya'll taught us about life, and how we can do anything.

  • Mount Hope was the greatest school that ever was. I was SO close to graduating from there...but now I must graduate from a school that is not really my home. I will never forget the friends and memories that I made at Mount Hope. It is still a part of me and always will be. I am now halfway finished with my year at a new school and I must say that it has been a very different and interesting experience. It makes me miss Mount Hope so much. These people already have their groups of friends and it seems as though we are outsiders and are labled the "Mount Hope kids" but thats what we are and its what we always will be.

  • The board of education closed our school... I went to Mt. Hope K-9 and never dreamed of graduating anywhere else... It looks like I'll have to. I will now be attending Tharptown High School. It's alot like Mt. Hope and alot better than Hatton... but its not home and it never will be. I belonged at Mt. Hope and so did my future. I hate that things happened this way, but they did and now we just have to make the best of it. I would like to say thank you to all of the wonderful teachers and amazing friends I've had along the way. I love Mt. Hope and i will always be a yellow jacket.

  • I moved my son from another school just down Hwy 101 about 2 years ago. I would recommend this school to anybody. Since he started here he has started playing ever sport and I mean playing on the court and the fields not just during practice. It doesn't matter what his last name is or who he's associated with he gets his time just like everyone else. I feel the teachers and coaches care for the students at Mt. Hope not just about who they are but what they're doing and try to keep them moving in a positive direction. Not all can be helped. There's always going to be kids that just can't walk away from trouble. I think most of them act out because of the lack of positive attentiion in their home environment but that's another subject. I pray our wonderful school stays open because I feel the drop out rate will be going up with the options the children have if the school shuts down.

  • I am with a political action committee that recently started called, CONCERNED CITIZENS OF LAWRENCE COUNTY.

I am doing research on our educational system here in the county and from what I have seen, Mt. Hope is doing FANTASTIC and so much better compared to the other high schools in the county.

  • This school is great if you are a "good God fearin' southern Christian". Try to be anything different and you're alienated. They automatically assume any alternative lifestyles or dress should be removed from the school before they somehow "corrupt" the school. Give me a break. These people live in the past and can't accept changing trends and attitudes. I experienced overwhelming narrow-mindedness and bigotry. I wouldn't recommend it. I'd find a bigger school that can accept kids for WHO THEY ARE and not try to turn them into someone they aren't.

  • I love Mt. Hope School. The teachers are great and you will never meet any nicer people. Everyone is treated the same, the greatest. Every one gets one-on-one time with the teachers if they need it, and even if you don't need help they will always listen to whatever you have to say. The people are the best.
