  • Description

  • This lesson is a beginning Algebra lesson for students to learn and do. The worksheet and answer sheet are included in this lesson.
  •
  • Goals

  • Students will learn:

    *To solve simple Algebra problems

  •
  • Materials Needed

  • You will need the following worksheet. I have the answer sheet following the worksheet.

    Beginning Algebra Problems

Directions: Solve the equations to the simplest form.

    1. 1x + 3x =

    2. 5x + 6x =

    3. 8x + 14x =

    4. 2x + 4x + 6x =

    5. 9x + 2x + 6x + x =

    6. (2x + 2x) + (4x + 3x) =

    7. (3x + 6x) - (6x + 3x) =

    8. (5x + 2x + 3x) =

    9. 2(3x + 4x) =

    10. 3(2x + 4x + 8x) =

    11. 8(4x + 3x + 12x) =

    12. 2(8x + 14x + 3x) =

    13. 4(31x + 2x + 5x) =

    14. 2(9x - 6x) =

    15. 4(19x - 12x) =

    16. 8(2x + 23x - 2x) =

    17. 7(5x - 2x + 6x) =

    18. 9(3x + 4x + 9x) =

    19. 31(4x - 2x + 2x) =

    20. 24(3x + 1x + 5x) =

Answer Sheet to Beginning Algebra Problems.

    1. 1x + 3x = 4x

    2. 5x + 6x = 11x

    3. 8x + 14x = 22x

    4. 2x + 4x + 6x = 12x

    5. 9x + 2x + 6x + x = 18x

    6. (2x + 2x) + (4x + 3x) = 4x + 7x = 11x

    7. (3x + 6x) - (6x + 3x) = 9x - 9x = 0

    8. (5x + 2x + 3x) = 10x

    9. 2(3x + 4x) = 2(7x) = 14x

    10. 3(2x + 4x + 8x) = 3(14x) = 42x

    11. 8(4x + 3x + 12x) = 8(19x) = 152x

    12. 2(8x + 14x + 3x) = 2(25x) = 50x

    13. 4(31x + 2x + 5x) = 4(38x) = 152x

    14. 2(9x - 6x) = 2(3x) = 6x

    15. 4(19x - 12x) = 4(7x) = 28x

    16. 8(2x + 23x - 2x) = 8(23x) = 184x

    17. 7(5x - 2x + 6x) = 7(3x + 6x) = 7(9x) = 63x

    18. 9(3x + 4x + 9x) = 9(16x) = 144x

    19. 31(4x - 2x + 2x) = 31(4x) = 124x

    20. 24(3x + 1x + 5x) = 24(9x) = 216x

  •
  • Procedure

  • First, you will explain how to add simple Algebra problems such as: 2x + 2x = 4x or 3x + 3x + 6x = 12x or 3(2x + 4x) = 3(6x) = 18x

You can explain how to do these problems by writing down examples on the board before the students do their worksheet.

After you have explained how to do the problems, then you can pass out the worksheet to each student so they can work independently.

Then, you can grade the worksheets.
  •
  • Grading

  • 100 to 90 = A

    89 to 80 = B

    79 to 70 = C

    69 to 60 = D

    Below 60 = F
